Seasonal Wildfire Mitigation Specialist

Salary: $25-47 per hour depending on experience

Location: Fairfield, CA/ responding to client properties

Classification: Seasonal June to October (Potential to extend based on fire season outlook)

The Wildfire Mitigation Specialist is responsible for safe and effective property conservation during a response incident. Deploying in response situations will be the primary objective of this position. When not responding this role will assist with day-to-day shop operations such as shop cleaning, cleaning and maintenance of trucks and equipment, training, and assisting with admin work where assigned by the senior lead. You will be expected to practice professionalism while communicating with all customers and team members and contribute positively to projects and training.

Responsibilities

  • Keep equipment and all response gear in good working order.
  • Assist in day-to-day shop operations including shop cleaning, cleaning and maintaining trucks and equipment, and admin projects as assigned.
  • Develops and maintains logs and records of incidents, time spent, tools and equipment used
  • Follows company and industry safety guidelines and regulations during response.
  • Ensure proper application of all products during a response.
  • Service customer properties during Rapid Response Deployment by prepping properties ahead of a wildfire, structure protection and addressing spot fires.
  • Perform engine operations duties including running the pump, deploying hoselays, completing preventative engine maintenance checks, and effectively using water and additives.
  • Apply knowledge of fuels, terrain, weather, and fire behavior to decisions and actions.
  • Use and maintain personal protection equipment (PPE).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to use fire pumps and properly perform hose evolutions.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent customer service and ability to work well with others.
  • Strong teamwork, positive attitude, alertness, and reliability are key characteristics we are looking for.
  • Ability to work 10 hour shifts.
  • Ability to work overtime.

  • Related experience required
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered

  • Current 5-130/ RT-130
  • Current Work Capacity Test (Arduous)
  • Incident Safety Awareness for the Hired Vendor

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, lifting, squatting
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and outdoors
  • Ability to be on your feet all day, walking on uneven terrain
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs. and maintain the physical fitness level necessary to effectively and safely perform preparation and suppression responsibilities.
